The C³ (founded in February 2026) is a new research center at the University of Bayreuth that promotes interdisciplinary, cross‑faculty research, teaching, and knowledge transfer on conflict, violence, security, and peace. For this, the C³ brings together insights and methods from sociology, political science, social and cultural anthropology, history, economics, geography, religious studies, and related fields.
Members of the C³ investigate a wide range of topics, including violence, social movements, security, humanitarianism, colonial hierarchies, knowledge production, infrastructure, and planetary futures. A central aim is to deepen understanding of change dynamics and identify opportunities for conflict transformation.
We share our findings through workshops, courses, policy events, and our flagship Bayreuth Peace Talks series. Through these activities, the C³ also contributes to the University of Bayreuth’s new “Translations and Conflicts” research network.
