Fracturing Security Workshop — Wrap-Up

11-12 December 2025

The Chair of Sociology in Africa recently held a two-day workshop “Fracturing Security: The Global South in a Polycentric World Order”

The workshop brought together an international group of scholars to discuss how security arrangements, practices, and politics are being reshaped across the Global South in the context of an increasingly polycentric world order. Over the course of the workshop, participants engaged in discussions on emerging forms of security governance, new actors and evolving modes of intervention.

The event was characterized by a strong spirit of intellectual exchange and collaboration. Participants provided constructive feedback on ongoing research and explored shared analytical perspectives on the changing nature of security beyond traditional state-centered approaches.

The Chair of Sociology in Africa would like to thank all contributors for their valuable input and active participation, which made the workshop a stimulating and productive academic exchange.
