We are pleased to share that Conflict, Crisis, and Change (C³) network members Prof. Jana Hönke and Dr. Adam Sandor recently took part in one of Europe's leading international relations forums, the 19th Pan-European Conference on International Relations. The event was held at the Iscte - University Institute of Lisbon.

During the conference, Prof. Hönke co-presented a new paper titled "The Power of the Non/state: China’s Advanced ‘Going Out’ in Kenya" alongside Dr. Kathy Dodworth (King's College London). Featured in the panel China, BRICS, and the Reordering of Global Capitalism, their research unpacks the profound resurgence of non-state actors (NSAs) in African public affairs. The paper represents a key output of the ongoing DFG-funded project, "Crafting the space to govern: Non-state practices of legitimation in Africa".

Additionally, Prof. Hönke was a featured participant in the roundtable discussion "Security Conversations Amidst the Clusterfuck". Organized by the former editorial team of Security Dialogue, the session brought together senior scholars to critically reflect on the concepts of security, war, and militarism in 2026

Together with Prof. Hönke, Dr. Adam Sandor took part in the panel Fracturing Security in and from the Global Margins which explored how actors in the Global South actively shape and disrupt global security orders. The panel is linked to the Postcolonial Hierarchies Project.

Through these diverse contributions, both scholars highlighted the C³ network's ongoing and active engagement with critical issues surrounding transnational security, non-state governance, and the evolving dynamics of international relations.
