“Bayreuths industrieller Wohlstand fußt in besonderem Maße auf kolonialer Wertschöpfung – ohne Zuckerrohr, Baumwolle oder Kakao wäre die hiesige Industrialisierung gänzlich anders verlaufen. Doch anstatt die Spuren dieser Rohstoffe zu verfolgen und die Umstände ihrer Produktion kritisch zu untersuchen, wirken rassistische und koloniale Sprache und Bilder im öffentlichen Raum fort. Durch diese gleichzeitige Ausblendung und Abwertung Schwarzer Menschen bleibt das koloniale Erbe der Stadt bis heute wirkmächtig. Gemeinsam gehen wir auf die Suche nach den Spuren des kolonialen Bayreuths.”

"Bayreuth's industrial prosperity is particularly based on colonial exploitation - without sugar cane, cotton, or cocoa, the local industrialization would have been completely different. Instead of tracing these commodities and critically examining the circumstances of their production, however, racist and colonial language and images persist in the public sphere. Through this simultaneous disregard and devaluation of Black people, the colonial legacy of the city remains powerful to this day. Together, we will retrace the colonial Bayreuth."
